Acclaimed company, The Dust Palace hosted a workshop on circus arts yesterday at James Hargest College in Invercargill.

More than 30 people learned about acrobalance, adagio, counterweight and physical communication.

In one of the exercises, Dani Kremers (11) lifted Sophie Wylie (8) under the watchful guidance of Dust Palace's Mike Edward. Looking on are Araya Mccabe (7) and Esme Middlebrook (8).

Mr Edward said the workshop was important to demonstrate teamwork.

''The cool thing is that circus is a real team effort. You learn about trust, courage and communication. Kids love to jump, roll and play. But is good they learned how to do it in a safe way.''

On Friday, the company will present its show Human at the Southland Arts Festival, at ILT Stadium.
