Call for canine companions

St John Invercargill area executive officer Tracy Kilkelly and her pooch Izzi are on the hunt for four and two-legged volunteers to help out with a newly introduced Outreach Therapy Pets programme.

The St John initiative was aimed at providing animal friendship to rest-home residents, she said.

‘‘It would be ideal to have people who have had first-hand experience caring for people in rest-homes, are committed to the programme and have a calm, gentle-souled animal.’’

The plan was to have the programme rolled out within the next few months.
