The $4.66million project was a joint venture paid for by the NZ Transport Agency. The Gore and Southland districts contributed $650,000.
Gore Mayor Tracey Hicks said the opening was a "red letter day" for the Mataura River Valley.
"It’s really good to get to this particular point."
After Hokonui Runanga kaumatua Taare Bradshaw led a karakia and blessed the bridge, Riversdale School pupils sang a waiata.
One of the first cars to cross the new Pyramid Bridge [pictured] after it was opened yesterday was a V8 Cadillac driven by Riversdale’s Greg Elder and passengers Keith Halliday (left) of Knapdale and Mr Hicks.
