Popular among gardening enthusiasts all over the country, Edendale’s annual Labour Day tulip event is back.

The Edendale Presbyterian Church fundraiser for various community groups will take place on Monday from 10am-4pm at the church.

Tulip day organising committee member Alison Caldwell said it was a unique opportunity "to see the beauty and the colour up close".

There would be van rides for $2 and even helicopter flights to take people to see Triflor New Zealand’s tulip farm at Seaward Downs Rd.

"People look at the tulips in the fields. They can come here and they can order the bulbs to be delivered next year."

The bulbs were donated to the church by Triflor New Zealand.

"For them it’s a way to give back to the community," Ms Caldwell said.

"We’re very lucky that the bulbs donated are of export grade — they’re very good."

It was great to be able to hold the event in person again after Covid-19 forced it online last year, she said.

It would be the second time the event took place at the Edendale Presbyterian Church on the corner of Brydone St and Melvin St after it was successfully held there in 2020.

Prior to that, the event had been hosted at the tulip farm in a shed, but people seemed to prefer having it at the church.

"The atmosphere is actually probably nicer," Ms Caldwell said.

There would be more than 20 stalls selling food, crafts and other items, as well as a bouncy castle for children.

The family event was always enjoyable and very well-attended by people as far afield as the North Island.
