Growers from Southland shared their knowledge and the best products of their labour at the Riverton Heritage Harvest Festival.

Cider, jams and gardening aids were displayed in the Aparima College Hall at the weekend.

A highlight of the event was the children's vegetable creations.

Youngsters put on their thinking caps and turned ordinary vegetables and fruit into works of art.

Denver Lush (3) said his favourite was a dolphin sculpture, made with bananas, grapes and jelly.

"It's so funny and weird."

The two-day event also had 40 workshops, including flax-weaving, heritage tomato growing, fermenting foods and making natural body products.

Festival co-ordinator Hollie Guyton said it was an opportunity for growers to come together.

"It's a weekend of sharing stories, skills and good food."
