More FM Surf to City brought more than 3500 people from all walks of life, and with all levels of ability together in Invercargill at the weekend.
It was a family-friendly event where people had the option of a 12km, 6km or 3km course.
They could bike, run, walk or roll their way across the finish line.
There was also a 1 km track around Queens Park held by Inclusive Activity Murihiku for young people with disabilities.
Active Southland chief executive Vanessa Hughey said they were "over the moon" with the turnout.
"We got plenty more people than we expected ... this is an event for all people of all abilities, and gives them a chance to spend time with their families and friends as they make their way from the [Oreti] beach to Queens Park."
She wanted to thank community sponsors for their support.
"We are really wrapped and we couldn’t do it without them, and we also couldn’t do it with the community’s support."
"I’ve seen all shapes of bikes, I’ve seen wheelchairs, I’ve seen strollers, I’ve seen scooters and people running and walking.
"It’s all about people getting out, having some fun, getting active and just moving in a way that works for them."
She believed the event was a great way to bring the community back together after a break due to Covid-19 regulations last year.
"It is really cool that we can get people back and enjoying the sunshine again."
Father Mark and his daughter Anna Stevens took part in the 3km track on a trail-gator and enjoyed themselves.
"Anna’s learning to ride a bike, so it’s been nice for us to do a big loop together.
"We’ve had a lot of fun," Mr Stevens said.
