Police plan to conduct an aerial search for two fishermen, Bruce Gordon (42) and Darren Allen (37), more than a week after the pair went missing from their crayfishing boat in Doubtful Sound.
Rain and fog covered Doubtful Sound yesterday and police communications officer Vivien Pullar said the search would depend on the weather clearing enough for helicopter vision.
Te Anau police constable Chris Boulton said the search was likely to begin tomorrow, however the forecast was not looking good.
He said police were in contact with the families of both men on a daily basis and the "next big thing" would be tomorrow's search.
The two men were last heard from on their crayfish boat K-Cee last Monday and were pronounced missing the next day when the wreckage of the half-submerged hull was found floating off Doubtful Sound.
Wooden floorboards from the boat's dinghy, the bladder from its liferaft and its unactivated emergency locator beacon were found on Wednesday.
Southland area commander, Inspector Lane Todd, said last Thursday the chances of finding the men alive were very slim.
An inquiry into what caused the loss of K-Cee was continuing yesterday.
