About 60 people and 20 volunteers brought some Yuletide cheer to Queenstown’s CBD with a Christmas lunch at the resort’s Memorial Centre yesterday.

Organised for the second successive year by the Salvation Army, Wakatipu Community Presbyterian Church and Happiness House, the lunch was put on for people vaccinated for Covid-19 and unvaccinated, the latter given takeaway boxes.

Salvation Army Queenstown community ministries director Lieutenant Andrew Wilson said the organisations decided to collaborate on the event for the first time last year, when there was a lot of need in the community.

They subsequently decided to make it a regular event.

"It’s a newly-found tradition."

One of those attending, Raewyn Burton, of Frankton, said she came by herself, but immediately spotted a friend.

"It’s really good for those organisations to do this for people."

Running from noon, Tte meal featured ham, lamb and vegetables, and was topped off by pavlova and ice cream.

A band from Youth With A Mission provided live music.
