A new mentoring programme between Clutha district councillors and youth councillors will be trialled this year.
At its meeting on Thursday, the Clutha District Council decided to approve the youth council's recommendation a mentoring programme should be trialled.
The Clutha District Youth Council put forward the idea, which would see district councillors offering support, advice and shared ideas to the youth councillors they were paired with.
The mentorships could see youth councillors joining district councillors at local community events and meetings.
Cr Ron Davis said mentoring was a great idea, and would allow youth councillors to develop more skill in a variety of areas.
Cr Stewart Cowie said he supported the idea but raised concerns about conflicts of interest, as some councillors were on bursary committees.
Council chief executive Charles Hakkaart said if mentorees were applying for bursaries, the mentor should declare a conflict of interest and step back from proceedings.
The recommendation was unanimously passed by the council.
The pairings would be established in time for the youth council's next meeting on March 26.
