More than 500 keen youngsters danced along to Mr Yipadee last week.

The Clutha Community Libraries organised children’s author, musician, and producer Dean O’Brien, known as Mr Yipadee, along to sing and dance to South Otago youngsters on school holidays last Monday at Te Pou Ō Mata Au — Clutha District War Memorial and Community Centre.

Parents and grandparents accompanied to experience Mr Yipadee’s song and dance and his books he writes for children.

The community centre was filled with music, dancing and cheering from the crowd as Mr Yipadee handed out small prizes and provided "great entertainment," library staff said.

"Everyone had fun, it was a great turn out and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the show."

A surprise at the end of the show from Mr Yipadee and the libraries was a fire engine from the Balclutha Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Children had the opportunity to climb inside the fire engine and look around, and hear the sirens and sounds from the engine.

The library team were grateful to South Roads for letting them borrow cones to cordon off an area in the carpark and to the Balclutha Volunteer Fire Brigade for coming along to surprise the children.
