A fund-raising effort spanning the past seven years will come to fruition in Lawrence on Saturday night.

The new Lawrence Golf Club clubrooms will officially be opened in a celebration those involved have been waiting years to mark.

Club life member Geoff Davidson, who was among those who first pushed for new clubrooms several years ago, was thrilled with the completed project which he said would be an asset not only for the club but the wider community.

The old clubhouse was demolished to make way for the new facility, which cost about $500,000.

Mr Davidson said the ceremony on Saturday would start at 6pm.

Clutha deputy mayor Hamish Anderson would attend, along with project funders and others involved in the clubrooms project.

The 321sq m building includes a lounge area capable of hosting about 120 people, toilet and shower facilities, a locker room, a club captain's office, and a full bar with views over the course.

The club's playing membership comprises about 15 women and more than 40 men.
