This Toyota Wish was involved in a two-car crash in Milton yesterday which resulted in two Milton women being sent to Dunedin Hospital suffering serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Constable Andy Denny, of Balclutha, said a 26-year-old woman had leg injuries and a woman in her 60s had chest injuries after the cars they were driving collided at the intersection of Centennial Ave and Duthie St, a 50kmh zone, about 2.40pm.

Although both cars were extensively damaged, they were probably not speeding at the time of the crash, he said. Neither car was carrying passengers.

Two fire trucks and three ambulances were called to the scene.

Milton Volunteer Fire Brigade Station Officer Nigel Lloyd said when emergency services arrived at the crash, residents were assisting both of the drivers, who were out of their cars.

Firefighters administered first aid to both drivers.

Const Denny had not spoken to the women, due to their injuries, and he had not been approached by any witnesses. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
