Two crashes in South Otago

South Otago emergency services were kept busy with two crashes in the Clinton Highway early this morning.

A police spokeswoman said the first crash happened about 4.20am, in State Highway 1 about 15km west of Balclutha towards Clinton, where a single vehicle left the road and crashed into a ditch.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said 30-year-old woman, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.

Just before 7am, another vehicle crashed further west on the same stretch of highway, about five minutes from Clinton.

The police spokeswoman said a car veered off the road and crashed into a paddock.

The driver had "no apparent injuries'' and was later processed by police for excess breath alcohol.
