Five Clutha teenagers were referred to police youth aid after they were found smoking banned synthetic cannabinoid Kronic in Balclutha on Tuesday afternoon.
Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Balclutha, said the five, aged between 14 and 16, skipped school and were found smoking Kronic at the Balclutha showgrounds about 2.30pm. The teenagers from Clinton, Owaka, and Kaitangata were discovered by a contractor who contacted police.
A 14-year-old boy received medical attention for a possible reaction the Kronic had with his ADHD medication.
A 12-month ban on synthetic cannabinoids came into effect last August.
