Police are seeking information after sheep were mauled on a farm south of Milton.
Constable Andy Denny, of Balclutha, believed poacher's dogs were behind the attack between July 19 and July 22. Around that time, hunters had been poaching on private farmland and private forestry land behind Moneymore Rd, south of Milton.
"The poachers were hunting pigs and had dogs with them. It appears they shot a pig and the dogs chased the pig but lost the scent in the bush before the dogs strayed on to private farmland where they mauled at least five sheep."
He said the some sheep had ears chewed off and wounds to the throat. At least one sheep was put down as a result of the attack.
A shot pig was later discovered in the nearby forestry block.
