School bus crashes near Balclutha

A Balclutha school bus driver escaped injury after his bus (above) careered about 30m into a paddock after a collision with a truck and trailer unit near the town yesterday.

Balclutha police said the driver had finished dropping off all the school children and was coming from Hillend on to State Highway 1, about 5km north of Balclutha about 4.20pm.

Senior Constable Jim Jordan said thedriver was "fine, but a bit shaken".

No-one from the bus company was available to comment.
