Teacher Shona Thompson said the school raised a lot more money than she had expected.
Money had come from the school’s dress-up day and disco, along with online donations.
Mrs Thompson felt the highlight of Daffodil Day for the pupils was dressing up in their "awesome yellow outfits".
"And definitely the disco after school was a highlight for those who were able to go.
"We also had a really good turnout of children from other schools at the disco."
She said the night saw lots of running around and excitement "with some excellent dance moves thrown in, especially when we had the best dance moves competition".
Mrs Thompson said the school — which raised $1028 — wanted to thank parents and pupils for getting behind the day, along with the wider Waimate community for supporting the disco.
She said pupils were excited to give the money to the Cancer Society, "who do so much to help so many people".
