The Clutha District Land Search and Rescue (LandSAR) group is seeking donations to help host a search and rescue competition.
Next year the group will host the annual Tautuku Cup, a Southern Region LandSAR contest. It involves teams of SAR volunteers having to search, locate, treat with first aid and recover an injured or missing person from an unknown bush area using SAR-specific skills such as sound lines, sign cutting, and bush first aid.
The competition will be held at the Otago Youth Adventure Trust's Berwick Lodge.
Detective Craig Dinnissen said the group sought donations to help run the contest. It costs about $4500 to cater for 140 volunteers from the Southern region. The group hopes to have a caravan display at the upcoming A and P shows in Balclutha and Milton.
