The Real Art Roadshow is a large truck that elicits plenty of admiration from and stimulates thought for those who venture inside.
Contained within the truck is a 64sq m art gallery with original work by more than 60 leading New Zealand artists. It is visiting secondary schools around the country.
Tokomairiro art teacher Kirsty Sangster said it was a wonderful idea and she hoped it would encourage greater interest in art.
Two of her art pupils, Byron Vollweiler and Sharlee Kreft, were impressed and even overawed at the colour and vibrancy of the works on show.
Aimed mainly at senior pupils, the gallery on wheels features works from the likes of Philip Clairmont, Bill Hammond, Toss Woollaston and Kelcy Taratoa.
A roadshow spokesman said the selection of artists on display "dovetails neatly'' into the art curriculum offered by schools and enables art teachers to gain maximum benefit from the experience.
"It is hoped that the Real Art Roadshow will both inspire art students and provide their teachers with an essential learning tool.''
