The Clutha District Council has achieved a surplus of more than $100,000, which will be carried over into the next year to be put towards several projects.
The council received the general surplus and carry forwards report at a full council meeting on Thursday.
The report showed the council concluded the financial year with a surplus of $113,333.
Several projects identified as significant will be carried forward into the 2016-17 year with additional projects added to the list.
Council finance manager Sharon Jenkinson said revenue of $30,608 from property did not come from the recently named Plantation Heights subdivision in north Balclutha. Most of the income came from existing leases, such as those at the Rosebank Industrial Park, and the carry-over of other contracts in the district.
The renewal of the Hina Hina, McLennan and Tahakopa Valley bridges were added to the significant projects list.
At the meeting, the council approved funding from the general surplus to go towards the planning costs of the Milton and Waihola communities, the implementation of the health and safety programme, consultancy for activity management and service delivery reviews.
Also discussed at the meeting was the Shop Trading Hours Amendment Act, which became law in August.
The Act allowed local councils to adopt an Easter Sunday shop trading policy.
While there was no obligation to do so, it still created a risk the council could spend a ``considerable amount of time'' dealing with requests relating to the Act.
The meeting agenda said the change of responsibility from central to local government was likely to create additional work.
The council approved $3000 from the surplus to go towards any extra consultancy which might needed to cover the workload.
The council also approved $8333 be transferred from the surplus to the general reserve.
