Pool financing still 55% despite cost rise

The Lawrence community pool project has been put on hold while the community is approached for funding.

At a special draft annual plan meeting yesterday the Clutha District Council voted to keep its funding contributions at 55% of the project's cost, despite an increase in projected costs from $1.57 million to $1.95 million.

It voted to increase the community services component to $487,500 and the ward component to $585,000 of the 2011-12 Lawrence swimming pool grant.

Pool working party committee member Kerren Crawford said the council's decision meant the group could now go out to the community to seek funding.

"We've got the support of the council to do this, and if we can secure funding from the community for the pool then we can go ahead with the project."

In the 2009-19 long-term plan, the council included provision for rates funding 55% of the proposed Lawrence pool. This was split between the Lawrence community services rate and the Lawrence-Tuapeka Community Board rate (ward funding) at 25% and 30% respectively.
