Constable Andy Denny, of Balclutha, said an 80-year-old woman was contacted on her landline phone yesterday just before 3pm. She described the caller as a male with a foreign accent who claimed to be a consultant from Balclutha Hospital.
The man asked her about her medical records and she became suspicious.
She was offered medication and fenugreek seed oil at a "much reduced price''. Suspecting it was a scam to obtain her account details, she ended the call.
She confirmed with Clutha Health First that no-one would have contacted her in such a way.
