Anne York is one of 64 New Zealanders - and the only one in Otago - selected to share a special birthday party with the prince, with all sharing the same birth date, November 14.
"I've always known I share a birthday with Prince Charles. I just didn't expect to have the chance to meet him," she said.
Mrs York was surprised to learn of her selection on Monday night, after returning from a holiday in Wanaka.
"I applied but never thought I would get it. It will be a bit of a fun day."
Mrs York will take her daughter Lauren with her to the party, and said she was also looking forward to the chance to see Government House.
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are visiting New Zealand from November 10-16 to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The royal visit coincides with the 64th birthday of Prince Charles. Governor-General Lieutenant-general Sir Jerry Mateparae also celebrates his birthday on November 14 and will host a birthday party at Government House in Wellington.
A Government House spokesman said in order to make it a "special Kiwi birthday party", Government House invited New Zealanders aged 18 years or over who were born on November 14 to apply for an invitation to attend the party.
More than 1500 people applied for an invitation to the "Kiwi birthday party". Names of the 64 were chosen at random, with the exception of the oldest applicant, who is 101.
Each guest is allowed to bring one adult guest.
Sir Jerry said the royal visit was a chance to recognise 60 years of remarkable service to New Zealand by the Queen.
"That we also have the chance to welcome the Prince of Wales and celebrate with him and the duchess on this special day is, if you'll excuse the pun, the icing on the cake."
