Late last year, police mooted the idea of an administrative change to ''better balance staffing levels in the areas'', Southern district commander Superintendent Andrew Coster said.
After about a month of consultation and consideration of feedback from staff, it was decided the Clutha policing sub-area would remain aligned administratively to the Dunedin-Clutha-Waitaki policing area, he said.
Under restructuring last year, the Waitaki policing sub-area was aligned with the Dunedin-Clutha area instead of Otago Rural. Mosgiel was also included in the Clutha sub-area, reporting to the Balclutha-based senior sergeant.
Police expected to fill the Clutha sub-area senior sergeant position in the next few months.
