The Clutha District Council will decide at its council meeting next week whether to further tighten proposed guidelines for berm mowing .
The council recently reviewed berm-mowing across the district and decided only to mow most berms when the grass is over 500mm.
The amount of berm-mowing in recent years has grown, taking 105,000 of the total $635,000 Parks and Reserves budget for 2010-11.
Council spokesman Jamie Shaw said the proposed guidelines aimed to keep costs to ratepayers down and make it fair for the majority of people who already mowed the berms outside their property.
The guidelines will also include not mowing grass inside properties or berms larger than the internal lawn area, andwould be implemented from July.
