Ryders Paper Plus in Balclutha was buzzing yesterday after selling a million-dollar Lotto ticket.

Retail assistant Georgia Crutchley said she had to do a "double-take" when they first heard the news.

The store sold a first-division winning Lotto ticket with a prize of $1million in Wednesday night’s draw.

Miss Crutchley said it was "pretty cool".

No-one had yet come in to claim the  prize and she had no idea who the big winner could be.

"I don’t blame them for wanting to keep a low profile."

A lot of their Lotto players were regular customers and locals, she said.

"I just hope it goes to someone local ... who needs the money."

The most money a customer had won with her was $8000.

The last time a million-dollar ticket was sold in Balclutha was in 2012, when $5million went to a ticket-holder from the Balclutha New World.

Neither Powerball nor Strike was struck in the Wednesday draw and the prize pool will jackpot to $18million this Saturday.

Anyone who bought their ticket from Ryders Paper Plus should write their name on the back of the ticket and check it immediately at any Lotto outlet, online at MyLotto.co.nz or through the Lotto NZ ticket-checker app.
