Annette was nominated for working tirelessly as a volunteer running the Owaka Swap Shop, volunteering her time by making up and running quizzes at Holmdene for the residents, organising and running public bat walks over summer at Tawanui, collecting and analysing data relating to the critically endangered long-tailed bats in the area and being the guardian for the three Lilliput Libraries in Owaka.
Her nominees called her "most deserving" of the award.
