Sport Clutha has taken on a face some may recognise for their Healthy Active Learning adviser role.

Keely Hill, of Balclutha, is looking forward to "giving back to the community" through helping schools in the role, which had become available after Ginny Ridgen finished up to pursue other pathways.

She began in the role this month.

Miss Hill grew up in the South Otago area and went to South Otago High School.

She travelled to Dunedin to study beauty therapy and found herself working at FACE Body & Beauty Salon in Balclutha.

"I loved working there. The team was incredible and I loved providing for the community in that way.

"When I was getting really into my rugby I was told I would need a gateway away from rugby and I feel working at FACE really helped me focus on various passions I have and still be the best version of myself.

"All of my family and friends are in this area, so it’s great living and working here.

She saw the job opening while she was applying for a grant for Rippa rugby.

"I was applying for a grant to be able to provide pupils in primary schools rugby skills, drills and just to expose them to some fun with Rippa rugby.

"This would have provided them with everything from the drills, to teaching them about the game itself and would be fun sessions so everyone could have a go."

"I was getting the job application sent to me by my old school teachers, friends and family and I just decided to give it a go.

"I knew it would be a way to give back to the community who has helped me so much through my love of sport, especially rugby.

She decided to give it a go and has been settling into the job and seeing what it is all about.

"I’m going to be working with primary schools to understand their various needs in their education and provide programmes that will motivate them in their school lives.

"It will be a great way for schools to utilise these programmes and encourage their pupils to be more active in their learning."

Miss Hill said the job so far was "amazing" and she was enjoying getting into the groove of the job.

"The job is really adaptable and I can work as well as pursue my sports which I’m really passionate about.

"I’m really excited to provide for the children in South Otago, as they will be able to benefit through this position."
