Kiwi actress Geraldine Brophy will be keynote speaker for Positively Clutha Women's Week for Women 2011 from May 21-29.
Brophy is better known as Moira, the receptionist from Shortland Street, or as the redhead who danced her way around the floor partnered by Stefano Olivieri on the TVNZ show Dancing With The Stars.
Positively Clutha Women co-ordinator Nyree Dickie said she was looking forward to hearing the actress speak.
"She's lighthearted, quick-witted and gutsy. She's had her dramas in her life and has made it through them."
Mrs Dickie has been in the job for three years, and has taken a month off from her work at Laser Electrical to make final preparations for the week. Planning began straight after last year's event.
She expected the various events to draw a total crowd of about 3000, with women attending from Timaru to Southland.
A dinner in Clinton, a bus trip to Riverstone Kitchen just north of Oamaru, and various arts and crafts were among the activities on offer.
"It's for the district, so not all events are held in Balclutha," she said.
The theme of the week is "Life's a Journey, Live, Learn, Enjoy" and would conclude with Balclutha Mitsubishi Artistic Journeys The Vision & Style Wearable Arts Awards.
This would be the third time a wearable arts competition had been run.
