The sole occupant of a vehicle which collided with a logging truck between Clinton and Balclutha is considered lucky to be alive.

Constable Deidre McKenna, of Balclutha, said a red sedan was pulling out of Moa Hill Rd when it and a logging truck travelling towards Balclutha on State Highway 1 collided about 2pm yesterday.

The car overturned in the collision.

The sole occupant of the car, a man in his 20s from the area, was taken to Clutha Health First with moderate injuries.

Const McKenna said he was lucky.

''You don't collide with a fully loaded logging truck and walk away very often.''

Three fire appliances from Clinton and Balclutha were called to the scene.

The driver of the logging truck was unharmed.

Investigations were continuing.
