McKenzies Honey owner Fergus McKenzie said there was some damage from the heat on the inside of the company’s shed "but, in terms of equipment, we got off pretty lightly".
The shed, used for storing honey and apiculture equipment, was relatively empty at the time of the blaze.
The fire and damage was confined to one end of the shed, Mr McKenzie said.
The building was insured.
Balclutha Volunteer Fire Brigade Deputy Chief Fire Officer Terry Michie said two fire appliances and one tanker from Balclutha attended the blaze about 7am yesterday. It took about half an hour to put out the fire. There was not much structural damage to the shed, he said.
"The fire started outside the building and it radiated into the shed."
The fire was going "quite well" when fire services arrived.
The fire was not being treated as suspicious and a fire investigator was not required, Mr Michie said.
