Clutha women showed off their artistic flair through wearable art on Saturday night in Balclutha.

The Balclutha War Memorial Hall was full for the Balclutha Mitsubishi Artistic Journeys The Vision and Style Wearable Arts Awards, to get a look at 28 entries across four sections.

Balclutha policewoman Judy Powell won the top honours, taking the Supreme Award and the Blast From the Past section with her entry Out of Strength Comes Beauty.

Ms (also known as Constable) Powell used old police uniforms and her new quilting skills to create her winning entry.

"I'm in shock really. I only entered the awards for a bit of experience."

Kate Morrison, who modelled Ms Powell's creation, said she loved the outfit and that it was very comfortable. Ms Powell donated $100 of her $1000 prize to Victim Support.

The event closed the 13th annual Positively Clutha Women's Week for Women.

On Friday night, Joan Hasler gave a talk on her experiences as a "biker chick". Mrs Hasler has toured many countries on motorcycles including Australia, Turkey, and China. She also tried her hand at circuit racing - in pink leathers.

"I think I look like a Christmas decoration on the track," she joked.

Mrs Hasler hoped to ride through the Himalayan mountain ranges soon.

A dinner in Clinton, a bus trip to Riverstone Kitchen just north of Oamaru, and various arts and crafts were a few of the events during the Week for Women.
