Five holiday homes burgled

Police are seeking information after several holiday homes were burgled near Milton earlier this month.

Constable Robin Hutton, of Milton, said five holiday homes at Chrystalls Beach, 20km southeast of Milton, were broken into between October 1 and 3.

Property including a ride-on lawn mower, two dirt bikes, tools, audio equipment, Freeview television receivers and art works were stolen.

Const Hutton said "distinctive" pieces of art, including original paintings, an Oamaru stone sculpture, and a copper fish wall-hanging, were targeted. He estimated the stolen items were worth thousands of dollars.

Because of the amount of property taken and the isolated location, police believed the offenders used a van, truck or vehicle with a large trailer.

Const Hutton advised other crib owners to check on their properties.

Police are appealing to the public for information in relation to sighting of suspicious vehicles in the area or the location of stolen items. Anyone with information should contact the Milton police on 417-8203 or anonymously on the CrimeStopper line 0800-555-111.
