Disney international publicist Marilyn Hsiung said the purpose of the trip was to continue the ongoing interest in the film Pete's Dragon.
About 15 people from various Disney companies and Tourism New Zealand visited Queenstown and Tapanui yesterday.
Ms Hsiung said the group, made up of people from Australia, the United States and New Zealand, were ''walking in the footsteps of the film-makers''.
They were visiting all of the film locations in New Zealand to promote the upcoming DVD release of the film.
Ms Hsiung said Tapanui was an integral part of the tour as Pete's Dragon was primarily shot there.
She said New Zealand had inspired a lot of film studios into realising the country had a lot of potential as a location.
Tourism New Zealand media specialist Anna Thomas said Tapanui was a good example that New Zealand could be transformed.
The main street of Tapanui was converted into a 1970s small American town for filming Pete's Dragon.
Some shops still bore signs and paintwork from the film.
Blue Mountain College pupils Tom Davies and Piper Munro, who were extras in the film, were also interviewed by Adam Roberts and Ashleigh Wells for the Disney Channel show Hanging with Adam and Ash.
The promotional tour will continue to other Pete's Dragon locations such as Rotorua and Weta Digital in Wellington.
