Dam report delayed

A safety assessment of the Phoenix dam near Lawrence has been put on hold until the Clutha District Council is able to clear a track for vehicle access.

Council infrastructure strategy manager Russell Bond said the council was required to regularly complete a safety engineering assessment of the water supply intake near Lawrence.

However, the assessment had been ''hampered'' by a lack of vehicle access to the dam's face.

Mr Bond said operational staff were working with Wenita Forestry to clear a track through the forestry plantation to complete the assessment.

He anticipated it would be completed in the next few months.
