A 31-year-old Balclutha woman looking for a parking spot to visit the hospital ended up in hospital as a patient after a two-car crash on Clyde St in Balclutha yesterday afternoon.

With her children inside at Clutha Health First, at 4.30pm, the driver had spotted a parking spot on the other side of Balclutha's main street and attempted a U-turn, but had not seen an oncoming car, police at the scene said.

The woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution after suffering a possible minor injury when her head hit the steering wheel.

The driver of the second car involved, a 22-year-old Balclutha woman, was unhurt, but had also been taken to the hospital as a precaution as she was five months' pregnant.

Earlier, at 3pm, north of Milburn, on State Highway 1, a car ran into the ditch after colliding with a caravan which had moved into the wrong lane during a brief hailstorm.
