The chase began about 11.20pm when a 20-year-old woman allegedly failed to stop for police, Sergeant Martin Bull, of Balclutha, told the Otago Daily Times.
Starting at Clydevale Rd, police chased the woman all the way to Waipahi and back to Clydevale.
Sgt Bull said the woman told police she did not stop because she had had a few drinks and was concerned about breaking her licence restrictions.
Spikes were deployed after 40 minutes at Clydevale, which brought the vehicle to a
stop.
Sgt Bull said there was evidence of alcohol on the woman's breath but she was under the legal breath limit for an adult.
She was charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
``For someone who has never been in trouble with us before, that's a hell of a way to start,'' he said.
She will appear in court in Dunedin on Friday.
Sgt Bull urged those considering drinking to do so responsibly.
He advised people to plan their night and ensure they had a safe way to get home at the end of it.
They should not be driving when they had been drinking, he said.
A rise in domestic incidents over the Christmas period also prompted a warning against discussing ``long-standing'' relationship issues with partners after a period of drinking.
``It's never a good idea,'' Sgt Bull said.
It should wait until the morning, or when people were sober.
