Newlywed couple Hamish Walker MP and Penny Tipu, of Balclutha, pose for a wedding shot on Kaka Point beach on Saturday afternoon.

About 120 "close friends and family" — including 15 fellow MPs — attended the ceremony held at the Port Molyneux School event venue in the Catlins resort town at the weekend.

Mr Walker, MP for Clutha-Southland, met his future wife, a clinical psychologist, three years ago on dating app Tinder, before proposing to her in a Gore paddock on Valentine’s Day last year.

Despite Mr Walker hitting the headlines last week after talking a distressed man off a ledge in Hawea, he had remained focused on his "big day" this weekend.

He told the Otago Daily Times yesterday "it was a very special day for Penny and I that we will cherish and remember for the rest of our lives".
