Balclutha Lotto winner claims prize

The winner of a $5.3 million Lotto prize walked into Balclutha New World, where they bought the lucky ticket, to claim their windfall yesterday.

The prize, from Saturday's draw, comprised of $5 million for Powerball first division, and a $333,333 share of Lotto first division.

New World owner Craig Broderick said the local person was "obviously excited" by the win, but was "taking it in their stride".

The win was also good for the store, and wider community.

"We get a bit of a lift from it, and the hype it creates in the shop and among the staff and customers is positive. It's a feel-good thing," he said.

A Lotto spokeswoman said the winner had made contact with them, but was yet to officially claim the prize.
