Organisers hope an event planned for the South Catlins area will bring visitors to the area.
"Race Round the Edge" is an Amazing Race-style event, in which teams of two will travel around the South Catlins, competing in mystery challenges to test their wits and stamina.
The event, on November 19, is being organised by the South Catlins Development and Environmental Charitable Trust.
It has been created as a fundraising opportunity.
All proceeds from the inaugural event will go back to the trust, as it works towards upgrading and protecting Curio Bay.
The exact route of the event remains a mystery. Entrants are to be at the Tokanui Rugby Club for a 10am start and will be given instructions on how to follow the course.
As with the route, the challenges remain a mystery, and project co-ordinator Juanita Thornton warned competitors that they could get wet and muddy, and suggested they might also want to brush up on local geography and history.
"We were trying to find different ideas for fundraising - and someone suggested an event like the Amazing Race [television show].
The challenges will be good fun and it's also a good chance to see the South Catlins area."
The entry fee for each team is $300, which the trust is suggesting teams raise by seeking sponsorship from their workplace, friends or family.
About 30 teams of two can take part.
