Balclutha's cool temperature and fine drizzle yesterday suited the 96 competitors in the inaugural bridge to beach race.
Event organiser Lisa Lyall said she was pleased to have so many entries and that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
The 21.5km run began at the Clutha Rugby Clubrooms, near the Balclutha bridge, and finished at the Kaka Point surf life saving club rooms, where competitors and spectators were treated to a sausage sizzle and entertainment.
Stefan Fairweather, a second-year medical student from Dunedin, said felt fine until he reached the 16km mark.
He finished second to fellow Dunedin resident Chris Tipper.
Mark Deacon won the bike race.
