Owaka's waka, to be unveiled at the town's 150th celebrations, has been a major recipient of the Mazda Foundation's second round of funding for 2015.
In the charitable organisation's second round of funding for 2015, more than $75,000 was given to 29 recipients around the country, and Owaka Going Forward's waka project received $25,000.
All the funding needed for the $65,000 waka project had now been secured, Owaka Going Forward chairwoman Aileen Clarke said.
She said Owaka Going Forward historical society representative Mike McPhee would accompany her and artist Russell Beck to Invercargill's Crown Sheetmetal, in October, where the 10m stainless steel sculpture was under construction.
The sculpture would be assembled on site in Owaka in mid-November and would be officially unveiled during the town's 150th celebrations on January 7.
Funding was still being sought for information panels, lighting and landscaping, Mrs Clarke said.
The Mazda Foundation funds projects that, among other things, promote environmental conservation and cross-cultural understanding.
