Jacqueline O'Reilly, Matthew Hudson, Nikki Matthews and Ashley Hudson
A group of four were enjoying a glorious summer day at Naish Park when the Otago Daily Times Balclutha reporter pounced on them at 12.30pm yesterday.
Balclutha woman Nikki Matthews, her two children Matthew (3) and Ashley (8) Hudson, and sister-in-law/aunt Jacqueline O'Reilly spent a few hours at Naish Park in Charlotte St yesterday afternoon.
Ms Matthews said her family visited Naish Park "every now and then" to feed the ducks and to look at the birds.
"It's been lovely weather today - we've enjoyed being outside relaxing, away from the four walls."
She and her partner and two children had been to Otautau last week, catching up with family.
Daughter Ashley said her younger brother Matthew loved chasing seagulls at the park, while she loved feeding the ducks and looking at the birds in the aviary.
Normally at this time of year, the family would be spending many summer days at the Balclutha swimming pool having swimming lessons, but the pool has been closed for the better part of a year as the council carries out a building upgrade.
Ashley said she missed the swimming lessons at the pool and hoped it would be up and running before summer ended.
Her father and uncle were out fishing for the day, and she hoped they would catch fresh fish for dinner.
Jacqueline O'Reilly originally lived in Ireland but moved to Invercargill, where she now lives with her husband.
She came to spend the day in Balclutha with family and was very impressed with the weather.
"I've never seen weather like this in New Zealand - it's just great."
The group returned to their snack picnic on the grass before returning home for a more substantial lunch.
