It is time to charge up the phone or dust off the digital camera.

The Courier’s annual summer photo competition gives you the chance to show off your photography skills by submitting an image that captures the essence of summer.

Entries close at 5pm on January 17, and photos must be taken from December 1 to January 17.

This year we are again running two categories — one for photographs taken by children aged 15 and under, and the other for those aged 16 and over.

Entries must be emailed to claire.allison@timarucourier.co.nz with ‘‘photo competition’’ for the adult competition and ‘‘junior photo competition’’ for the children’s entries in the subject line.

All photos must be accompanied by a caption explaining who took the photograph, where it was taken, who is in the photograph, and the ages of children aged 16 and under.

Photos must be at least 1MB in size — do not reduce the size when you send it.

The winner of the adult competition will receive a $100 Speight’s Ale House voucher, and the junior section winner will receive two VIP passes to MovieMax Digital.

The winners will be announced in The Courier on January 23.
