Police investigating a fatal crash on State Highway 1 north of Oamaru yesterday are calling for information from witnesses to the accident.
Emergency services were called about 6.05am after a truck and car collided near Makikihi, in the Waimate District.
One person died at the scene, and another was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson told The New Zealand Herald one of the vehicles was on fire after the crash.
Police this morning said they wanted to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or had dashcam footage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
