The residents at Enliven Wallingford were caught off guard with an April Fool’s prank last week.

Activities co-ordinator Sandy Mclachlan said as residents gathered for breakfast they were met with an unusual sight.

The buffet — which was usually covered in breakfast staples like bowls of peaches and an assortment of cereals — was instead covered in a multitude of bowls which were filled with frozen vegetables like broccoli and peas.

Miss Mclachlan said residents were so confused they did not move.

The residents exchanged puzzled glances, and one ever so polite resident started dishing a frozen vegetable on to her plate.

The staff, who were doing their best to keep straight faces, did not know how long they could keep the joke going.

However, when they saw a vegetable being dished up, they were quick to burst out with "April Fool’s!".

"There was a bit of chatter afterwards."
