The Kids’ Big Christmas Market will see 60 children running 45 stalls at the Caroline Bay Hall this weekend.
Event organiser Naomi Faifai said the children were aged between five and 15.
It was the first year the market would be held, but she hoped it would become an annual event, she said.
The idea had come about as her son had been keen to do another market after having a small lucky-dip-style stall at the Highfield School Fair earlier in the year.
"We thought there must be other kids keen to do the same and make some money before Christmas, and here we are.
"I still remember doing a kids’ market in the Christchurch Square when I was about eight years old."
She had held a stall with her sister, she said.
"I remember how cool it was leaving with nearly $100, which was a lot of money back then."
One stall holder, Rinah Bird, will be selling crocheted critters.
Rinah said it had taken her about a week to make each of the crocheted animals during term time.
She had been knitting and sewing from a young age, but had been crocheting in earnest for about three years.
It would be her first time selling her creations at a market, she said.
"It would be great to have lots of people come down and see what we have all made."
It would be a great place to buy Christmas presents, she said.
"If I sell out, I am happy to take orders for my crocheted critters."
Miss Faifai said shoppers could expect to find baking, treats for dogs, handmade slime, playdough, jewellery, keyrings and face painting, "just to name a few".
"And a DIY ice-your-own-gingerbread stall."
The market will be held on Sunday, 10am-1pm.
