The South Canterbury Morris Minor Club is hosting the 30th national convention this weekend.
About 65 Morris Minors will arrive in Timaru from as far afield as Auckland and Dunedin for the event.
Convener Joanne Gillespie said participants drive their Morris Minors to convention - no car transporters are involved - so the Auckland crew are expected to travel down in convoy.
"It’s nice when you are all out there together, if there are three or four of you, people stop and look."
Mrs Gillespie said about 105 people would be involved in the convention, which was held every two years, alternating between the North and South Islands.
South Canterbury last hosted the event in 2016.
The convention will begin on Friday night with a get together and the federation annual meeting.
On Saturday the Morris Minors will be put under the microscope by judges looking for the winners of categories including best interior, best paint job and best in show.
Participants will take sightseeing tours around the region on buses before returning to base for dinner, club photographs and prizegiving.
On Sunday, the Morris Minors will hit the road around South Canterbury, parking for a show and shine in Afghan St, Pleasant Point from 10am-noon.
They will then motor off to Castle Claremont for lunch and official photographs.
The convention concludes with dinner and club prizegiving on Sunday night.
Mrs Gillespie said the Morris Minor - whether it was a two-door or four-door, ute or flat deck truck - just kept going.
"They’re just a happy wee car, rounded, not a straight panel on them.
"Everyone always knows someone who had one. They’re just the kind of car that makes you smile."
