Blitzen’s disappearance will be causing a stir this Christmas Eve.

The pantomime Who Blitzed Blitzen? will be showing at Timaru’s Scottish Hall.

Producer Megan Holden said the Christmas pantomime has been running for over a decade.

Mrs Holden said the Christmas Eve performances definitely had a following, and had become a part of Christmas tradition for some families.

She said that for most people, the hectic time of finishing up at work and organising their festivities had come to an end, and the pantomime offered them a place to relax and have a laugh.

Jess Young had written the script, with a brief to make it a Cluedo-style Christmas pantomime.

The pantomime was based around missing reindeer.

"To an extent, the audience is in on what happened to the reindeer."

The cast was made up of four adults, while the rest were 14 years old or younger.

She said those young cast members had helped to come up with a lot of the movement.

They had made her aware of TikTok trends, which had been carefully and creatively added to the show.

She said there was a lot for all generations.

"There are hidden gems as well, that only particular audience members will catch."

She hoped people would leave the theatre with songs stuck in their heads.

All proceeds would feed back into the following year’s show, allowing them to purchase things like microphones for the younger cast members who struggled to project.

"We’re doing it for love."

The pantomime would play on December 21, 22, and 24 at the Scottish Hall in Timaru.

Tickets would be sold from the timarupanto.com website, and there would be select door sales.

"Come and have a laugh and get amongst the joy of pantomime."
