The elite of the mountain biking world will dust themselves down and suit up for a swanky awards night in Queenstown next week.

The second annual World Mountain Bike Awards, to be held at Arthur’s Point Cargo Collective Hall on Wednesday, will feature dozens of the world’s best riders.

Organiser Robin Bush says it has been teed up to coincide with Natural Selection Bike, an event for the world’s top freeriders on Queenstown’s Mt Dewar on February 15. That means a lot of big names will be at the awards, which will be more black tie than last year, Bush says.

The evening will also be a chance to recognise those in the background.

"We all know who the fastest riders are and who wins all the big events, so this is a chance to recognise photographers, supporters, and appreciating some of the best riders overall that really add value to our community."

As well as New Zealand riders, athletes from Canada, America, Europe, Chile and Australia have been nominated for awards.

Locally, Robin Goomes has been nominated for Rider of the Year — Female, Move of the Year and Moment of the Year — for when she became the first female to win the Red Bull Rampage.

Garph Morgans has been nominated for Rider of the Year — Male, Chris Chase for Photographer of the Year, and Jordan Fritz for the Cinematic Excellence Award.

Amongst the juniors, 12-year-old Riley Baker is up for Breakthrough Athlete of the Year.

The event starts at 6pm and includes dinner, drinks and DJ. Tickets are still available at https://shorturl.at/zwuhR
